ABSTRACT

Sesame is a herbaceous annual plant cultivated for its nutritious and flavored edible seeds. It is also known as gingelly, and popularly known as the “queen of oilseeds.” The structure of the sesame blossom facilitates cross-pollination, even though the crop is usually viewed as self-pollinating. Bee pollination has been reported to significantly increase the seed yield. Plants exposed to insect pollinators give 25% higher yield as compared with those covered with cages to exclude insects.
