ABSTRACT

The design of the graphical user interface and the design of the visualizations equipped with various interaction techniques play major roles to finally obtain a runnable and user-friendly tool with which the authors can explore and analyze our data-at-hand. They are starting with a very simple example of a dashboard that is based on randomly generated data. This data is visually explored for its distribution, that is, they are interested in a visualization that shows this distribution, that allows some basic interactions, and as a user input, the color of the diagram should be modifiable between a few standard colors. Moreover, the layout and the aesthetics, that is, visual decoration of all of the components is of importance. Sometimes it is a good idea to keep the functionality, features, and diagrams in a separate tab, to create functionality groups that reduce the cognitive effort for the users when finding individual features to solve a certain task.
