ABSTRACT

Energy exists in many forms – energy of motion, energy of position, electrical energy, energy of light, chemical energy, nuclear energy, energy of heat. The kick transforms chemical energy in player’s leg muscles into the energy of motion of the ball. This energy of motion is not heat, however, because all the atoms of which the ball is made up are going the same way. The specific practice grew up in the nineteenth century of measuring different forms of energy in different units; the energy of heat was in British thermal units. However, as the concentrations are lowered more energy is needed to crush the greater amount of rock that must inevitably be processed to yield the same quantities of metal. The correct interpretation of the table drawn up by Club of Rome is simply that within a few decades a greater per capita energy flow will be needed in order to maintain our access to same quantities of metals.
