ABSTRACT

In the early 1970s, Cadotte and his team introduced a ground-breaking innovation in the field of desalination membranes. They developed the first polyamide thin film composite membrane as an alternative to overcome the shortcomings of the asymmetric cellulose triacetate reverse osmosis membrane. The reverse osmosis membrane initially pioneered by Loeb and Sourirajan was hampered by two primary issues, namely, low water permeability and poor biological and chemical stability.
