ABSTRACT
The Intermediate Value Theorem (IVT) states that if a real number changes continuously as it moves from a to b, then it must pass through every value between a and b. This simple and intuitive fact— arguably, more of a property of the real numbers than a theorem—is a powerful tool in mathematics, and shows up often in puzzle solu- tions.
