ABSTRACT

Taxonomy is the study of naming and classification of organisms. In general, rRNA is highly conserved with the slow rate of evolutionary change. Hence, classification based on nucleic acid sequence analysis and cell ultra structure clearly shows the evolutionary relationship and helps to understand the close relatives of an organism. The fungi-like organisms belong to two distinct kingdoms. Historically, they have been categorized as fungi due to their shared physical characteristics. Now they are classed as Chromista and Protozoa kingdoms. The Plasmodiophorida species are now classified in the Phylum Cercozoa, which is also part of the Chromista kingdom. This group of organisms is called heterokonts or stramenopiles because they possess two terminal flagella of uneven length throughout particular life cycles.
