ABSTRACT

The name Chromista means “colored”, and although some chromists, like mildews. This kingdom comprises of eukaryotic, walled microorganisms that produce heterokont, wall less cells in their life cycles. They have closer phylogenetic association with brown algae and diatoms than true fungi belonging to kingdom Fungi. Sporangiogenous plasmodium formed asexually containing many thin-walled zoosporangia and each zoosporangium produce a single or many secondary zoospores or the sporangial zoospores. Cystogenous plasmodium formed sexually consisting of thick-walled cysts and each cyst gives rise to a single primary zoospore/cyst zoospore. Oomycota or Heterokonta consist of more than 800 species that may be saprobic or parasitic on the terrestrial or aquatic plants and animals. Plant pathogenic oomycetes are usually aquatic also called as water moulds because most of the species have a spore stage that swim and require the free water for dispersal.
