ABSTRACT

Hydropower is the largest renewable energy source. This remarkable achievement can be attributed to the fact that of all renewable energy sources, hydropower is the most reliable, efficient and economical. In addition, the concept of hydropower is quite simple and has been used for a long time. Harvesting energy from water is possible due to the gravitational potential energy stored in the water. As water flows from high potential energy (high ground) to lower potential energy (low ground), the potential energy difference thus created can be partially converted into kinetic and in this case electrical energy by a generator. Hydropower offers several significant advantages over fossil energy and even other types of alternative energy. Probably the most important currency of hydropower is its reliability. Some geothermal fields produce boiling water as well as steam, which are also used in power generation.
