ABSTRACT

The name Chromista was introduced by Thomas Cavalier-Smith in 1981. The name Chromista means “colored”, and although some chromists, like mildews. The Kingdom Chromista/Straminipila of the SAR supergroup is shown as “Stramenopiles.” These are diverse in their nutritional mode, comprising photosynthetic algae and phagotrophic protists, as well as osmoheterotrophic fungi. The phylum Cercozoa consists of unicellular creatures with no shared morphological characteristics. It contains the key Phytomyxea class and Plasmodiophorida order. The parasites exist as intracellular plasmodium in the host cell and derive food by absorption. Plasmodiophora brassicae is soilborne obligate parasite that causes club root disease of crucifers. Phytophthora infestans produces microscopic, asexual spores called sporangia.
