ABSTRACT
We now reach the stage of the gene expression pathway where the information contained in the nucleotide sequence of an mRNA is translated into a protein. We have already learned that this process follows the rules laid down by the genetic code, with tRNAs enforcing these rules. Now we must examine the mechanism by which all this happens. The fi rst part of this chapter is therefore about the role of the ribosome in protein synthesis.
