ABSTRACT
The human upper limbs are specialized for prehension, sensation and grasping. They show little of their primitive functions of locomotion and support. Their ability to perform finely controlled movements is due to a well-developed sensory nerve supply, a large cerebral representation and a great mobility; pronation of the forearm and opposition of the thumb each contribute to this.
