ABSTRACT

Six other useful index metrics include the Product Portfolio Index, New Products Index, Feature Function Index, Time-to-Market Index, and R&D Success Index. Each of these index metrics provides greater insight into portfolios and the value of products delivered. The Product Portfolio Index identifies and validates current and projected patient needs in existing and targeted demographics. This metric shows the product portfolio by size and margin contribution. The underlying assumption is that high-margin products serve patient needs better than low-margin products, and that high growth rates indicate that patient needs are being met. The New Products Index shows the organization's emphasis on adapting its products and services to the changing demands of patients. The Feature Function Index shows the level and extent of the changes found in new products and services offered by the organization. The Time-to-Market Index shows the ability of the product development function to release new products and services on a timely basis.
