ABSTRACT

Medical law, like medical ethics is included in medical school curricula. In the United Kingdom and many other settings, medical students may get the opportunity to take an interest in medical law further, for example, in a self-selected component or an elective placement or project. There are now several bachelor-level degrees in medical law, some of which can be taken as an intercalated degree. Medical schools that offer self-selected components may have opportunities to do a medicolegal project. Medical ethics is usually about the consideration of four principles: autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence and justice. Not only medical students and doctors are interested in medical ethics; it is a subject that fascinates the general public too. There are many reasons to consider teaching while at medical school. Good teachers will have an ability to clearly communicate, are well organised and creative in adapting their material to suit and enthuse their students and will have sound knowledge of their teaching subject.
