ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the different methods for solving a linear system of equations and these methods involve the concepts of determinants and matrices. Matrices with different dimensions are a standard method for solving a wide range of problems in many disciplines. In science and engineering, when considering particular problems, the derivation of the solutions to these problems can come down to solving a system of linear equations. Determinants arise naturally in the solution of a set of linear equations. Also they will help solve linear equations using the matrix inversion method. In English, one thinks of the word matrix as meaning a "grid" or an array." In mathematics, it has a special meaning: An "object" made up of a rectangular arrangement of "things," or elements, which behaves according to certain rules.
