ABSTRACT

In Chapter 10, we studied nonparametric analogs of the one-way analysis-of-variance F test for equal means in a one-way classification. If the samples from the k populations are all the same size so that n 1  = n 2  = ∙ ∙ ∙ = n k  = n, the data can be presented in a two-way table of dimension n × k. This is called a one-way layout because only one factor is involved, the populations. Under the null hypothesis of identical populations, the data can be considered a single random sample of nk observations from the common population.
