ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces different types of fading in brief and discusses the types of fading and their relation with the rate of change of channel characteristics. It provides special cases of the generalized fading distributions. The chapter deals with the methods to generate fading channel coefficients that follow generalized fading distributions. These channel coefficients are especially useful while simulating wireless communication systems. The chapter also discusses the metrics and methods for evaluation of the metrics which are used as performance analysis tools for wireless communication systems. The fading characteristics depend mainly on the channel conditions. The two parameters that are used to classify the fading channels are coherence band-width and coherence time of the channel. The channel is classified as flat fading channel if the coherence bandwidth of the channel is greater than the signal bandwidth. Nakagami-m distribution is used to model fading scenario in various conditions.
