ABSTRACT
This chapter covers the world population growth, the global water resources and the growing water demand and water scarcity index. It also provides an up to date status of desalination globally by technology and capacity. The energy consumption for desalination by traditional methods is covered and the concept of water footprint in water consumption presented.
