ABSTRACT
This chapter covers the methodology to improve membrane performance in membrane distillation. The desirable membrane properties are presented and various methods to improve membranes by surface modification or by new material in order to reduce membrane wetting. Novel types of membranes, such as omniphobic, amphiphobic and Janus membranes, are presented.
