ABSTRACT

Performance measures are typically utilized to assess the current condition of a facility and develop performance models for predicting its conditions in the future. Traffic control and safety hardware, including traffic signs, lighting, signals, pavement markings, and guardrails and crash cushions, collectively contribute to safety performance of travellers and users. With data on condition levels collected for a specific type of facility or a group of facilities in a transportation network over time, it could be utilized to develop facility condition deterioration models for facility performance analysis. The linear regression models can be calibrated using the ordinary least squares and maximum likelihood estimation techniques. An advantage of regression analysis is that it provides statistical methods to analyze facility condition data and develop condition prediction models that can be updated using future analysis results and engineering judgment.
