ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at several ancillary issues in global risk management such as the numerous risk verticals in most international operations, political, and terrorist risks. Political risk is both an art and science, and governments, institutions, universities, and private facilities have spent a great deal of time studying the impact and likelihood of the events. There are four primary classifications of political risk coverage: confiscation, nationalization, expropriation, and deprivation. In a global marketplace, an effective compliance program is a critical component of a company's internal controls and is essential to detecting and preventing FCPA violations. An antibribery compliance program is a system of self-governance established by companies in order to prevent and detect bribery acts and remediate compliance failures. Conflict minerals consist of natural elements taken from the earth that have caused massive deaths in how the products are mined and brought to market. The chapter describes the rules regarding when and how companies should disclose use of conflict materials.
