ABSTRACT

Different MRI tagging techniques have been proposed for measuring myocardial deformation using MRI (Ibrahim 2011). Generally, these techniques can be divided into magnitude-based and phase-based techniques depending on how the magnetization is manipulated during the MRI scan to reect tissue motion. The spatial modulation of magnetization (SPAMM) technique covered in this chapter belongs to the rst group. Nevertheless, it stands out as the most widely used tagging technique since its introduction by Axel and Dougherty in 1989 until our current day.
