ABSTRACT

Gray relational analysis (GRA) is a very effective strategy when there is incomplete information regarding one or more parameters of a decision problem. Due to uncertainties associated with the quantities and conditions of end-of-life (EOL) products, GRA is a promising solution methodology for environmentally conscious manufacturing and product recovery (ECMPRO) problems. However, the use of GRA in ECMPRO problems is limited to a few studies. This chapter presents a GRA-based model for the evaluation of suppliers by considering environmental as well as traditional performance criteria. Prior to the application of the GRA procedure, criteria weights are determined using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP). GRA is used in F. T. S. Chan to evaluate EOL processing alternatives considering uncertainty and several criteria at the material level. Li and Zhao developed a green supplier selection methodology by integrating the threshold method and GRA. In the chapter, a model was presented for the use of GRA to solve an ECMPRO-related problem.
