ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the key points in big data analytics and security for a particular vertical domain, that is, healthcare. It describes the planned case study and shows how the big data analytics and security techniques can be applied in the healthcare domain where there is a need to manage and analyze massive amounts of data securely. While the authors have used the air pollution monitoring domain for the planned case study, the techniques that need to be designed and developed are not only applicable to a particular domain but can span across multiple domains such as cyber security, healthcare, and geospatial applications. The chapter provides a suite of new and customized algorithms and techniques to provide personalized health alerts and estimate resource needs for emergency rooms based on machine learning/data mining. It discusses the various challenges related to timely health indicators for big data and how can overcome these challenges.
