ABSTRACT

Vehicle development programs are large and very complex. The success of a vehicle program, just like the performance of a very large orchestra, requires discipline and coordinated actions of many individuals in the program teams. The selection of a program manager who will lead the vehicle program is probably the most critical decision faced by the senior management of the auto manufacturer. The project development activity requires many inputs from a number of stakeholders and activities associated with the project and other issues that can affect the activities of the project. Project management is the discipline of planning, organizing, securing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of the specific project goals and objectives. The program evaluation and review technique (PERT) is a model for project management designed to analyze and represent the tasks involved in completing a given project. PERT was developed primarily to simplify the planning and scheduling of large and complex projects.
