ABSTRACT
Gone are the old days of textbook examples consisting of n = 25 observation. Automatic data collection by large companies has led to data sets on the terabyte scale or more. This has enabled applications of previously unimaginable power, some noble such as geographical prediction of epidemics and crime incidents, others that create disturbing invasions of privacy. For good or bad, though, Big Data is here to stay.
