ABSTRACT

While it looks like “liquid plasma”, and surely it is plasma inside of liquid, in this case, there is no ionization of liquid phase itself. If such plasma systems could be generated, the resulting systems could have numerous applications, including plasma disinfection, sterilization, activation of liquids for washing, cleaning, plant growth stimulation. Mechanisms of conventional plasma discharges and breakdowns in liquids can be classified into two groups: the first group presents the breakdown in a water as a sequence of a bubble generation process and a following electronic process and the second group divides the whole process into a partial discharge and a fully developed discharge such as an arc or spark. The power necessary to evaporate the water during the streamer propagation can be estimated using the streamer velocity, the size of the streamer, and the heat of vaporization.
