ABSTRACT

Image forgery is any alteration in an image that changes the semantic meaning of the image. Image forgery has a negative impact in many prominent fields, such as banking, financial services, marketing, advertisement, defense, sports etc. This chapter introduces the underlying concept of image forgery with the inclusion of several cases of forgery that have occurred throughout history. Image forgery detection techniques fall under two categories, active and passive image forgery. Active forgery detection relies on some prior embedded information, whereas passive forgery detection reveals forgery without any prior information. This chapter also describes several important forgery detection techniques, such as digital watermarking, image splicing, copy move and retouching and resampling detection.
