ABSTRACT

Six or seven species, with representatives throughout the temperate and arctic oceans of both hemispheres. After breeding, all migrate towards, or to, the opposite hemisphere. Five have been recorded in the Afrotropical Region: there are extremely low numbers of records for four of these in Kenya. The single record is of a tired and approachable bird at Suthi, 5 km S of Kiunga village 80C, on 6 Aug 1961.
