ABSTRACT

Hartlaub's Turaco forms part of a superspecies with the White-crested Turaco (Sn). Hartlaub's is mainly segregated from the other turacos by altitude (Br), but apparently coexists with Livingstone's (356) in the main Loita Hills forests 74D, while being separate from that species on small forest islands just to the SW (Sn). Rather scarce and local in open wooded habitats up to 2200 m, in moist areas to the West of the White-bellied Go-away Bird. Fischer's Turaco is reasonably common in forested, well wooded and thicketed parts of the coastal lowlands, and inland along the lower Tana R 79C 91A. A locally common turaco of bushed and wooded country, and forest edge and riverine forest, mainly below 1300 m but probably resident at nearly 2000 m on the Mua Hills 76A. MPG describe the Black-billed as remarkably shy, and it is therefore rated D1 since it is also difficult to detect in its forest canopy habitat.
