ABSTRACT

HM consider the cosmopolitan group of approximately 300 species to show the greatest habitat diversity of any family. Around 111 (37%) occur in the Afrotropical Region and, of these, 48 (43%) are recorded from Kenya. The Kenyan species are divisible into 33 (69%) that breed or are thought to do so, and 12 (25%) that are non-breeding migrants from the Palearctic. The very few Kenyan records fall in the period May-Dec. Both the Afrotropical and Kenyan accounts of this species are based mainly upon the data of Pearson. The two annual migrations, and the limited wintering area, show distinctive features. While the first south migrants reach Kenya in Oct, the main arrival is in Nov-Dec. Kenya represents the north extremity of the Afrotropical wintering range. The White-browed Scrub Robin forms part of a species-group with the Rufous Bush Chat, and the Brown-backed and Eastern Bearded Scrub Robins.
