ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the birds comes under the family Muscicapidae: Flycatchers, Batis, Wattle-eyes, Spotted flycatcher, Spotted flycatcher, Gambaga flycatcher, Dusky flycatcher, Swamp flycatcher, Ashy flycatcher, Collared flycatcher, Lead-coloured flycatcher, Lead-coloured flycatcher, Black flycatcher, White-eyed slaty flycatcher, Silverbird , Pale flycatcher, Grey flycatcher and Forest batis. The Spotted Flycatcher forms part of a superspecies with the Gambaga Flycatcher, and part of a species-group with the Dusky, Chapin's and Swamp Flycatchers (HM). The little known Chapin's is quite separate from the Gambaga and Swamp Flycatchers, but presumably exists in closer vicinity to the Dusky. The Ashy Flycatcher is probably mainly resident, but there is evidence of nocturnal movement at Mombasa 114B (Br). Ja records it from Nairobi and Kiambu 75B, but there are no recent records from this well known area. The Southern Black Flycatcher is a usually rather uncommon bird of bushed and wooded habitats up to 1800 m (Br; Ja).
