ABSTRACT

Yale University Third oldest university in America, originated from the Collegiate School of America established at Saybrook, Connecticut with a donation from English administrator, Elihu Yale (1649–1721) in 1701. Yale was born in Boston, Massachusetts and educated in London from 1652. He worked for the East India Company and was governor of Madras in 1687. His donation for the college was realized through sale of his effects in America. The Collegiate School was named Yale College in his honor in 1718 and expanded into Yale University in 1887.
