ABSTRACT

In the eyes of most foreign-born or first generation Asians, Asian police (with the exception of the Japanese or perhaps the Royal Hong Kong Police) are neither greatly respected nor trusted. In much of Asia, law enforcement personnel have received, and sometimes deserved, a lot of very bad press. Asian police are often portrayed as corrupt, cold, brutal, disrespectful, and politically dangerous. Worse, if they were friendly, they were probably looking for bribes, extortion, kickbacks, or political advantages.
