ABSTRACT

In general, foreign-born and first generation Asian peoples are notoriously closed-mouthed and quietly uncooperative with police. Even if they report a crime, expect that they are going to withhold information or ignore information which may throw a bad light on themselves (such as undeclared money) or information they think irrelevant. One way to overcome this is to go through the “cultural chain of command” to the elders. Keep eye contact and respect focused upon the elder male even while using a younger person as a translator.
