ABSTRACT

In order to study an affine variety, one can consider the variety as a whole and hence ask for global properties (like connectedness or homeomorphism type), but one can also concentrate on a specific point on that variety and study only a neighborhood of this point. To give an example, consider the following pictures of algebraic curves in ℝ 2 https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315136554/b1e97aa6-f63a-4d22-960d-a98dde0e94f9/content/eq4081.tif"/> . https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781315136554/b1e97aa6-f63a-4d22-960d-a98dde0e94f9/content/pg347.tif"/>
