ABSTRACT

Some organizations provide incentives in the form of bonuses to employees who produced quality work in a timely manner, but they did not consider safety as an attribute for awarding the bonus. Many incentives have both a financial and a nonfinancial aspect. Some companies also recognize the injury-free employee by honoring that person via the company's newsletter, bulletin board, or local newspaper. Most successful managers believe that employees will respond to incentives. Giving a safe worker pin to our safe workers is tangible evidence that management recognizes and appreciates the individual's effort toward safety, saving lives, and equipment. Trophies and similar awards stimulate employee interest in company safety programs. An incentive aid to help promote plant safety, the safety scoreboard, is a constant reminder to personnel of the number of days worked without a losttime injury. Incentives and safety awards are strong motivators to excite people to work safely.
