ABSTRACT

The National Safety Council has said that for table saw operators who have been on the job for 15 years, 9 of every 10 operators will have lost fingers. Hand and finger injuries can be prevented by installing machine guards and providing hand protection. Most slipping injuries are caused by oily and greasy work floors. Tripping injuries can be prevented when supervisors take time each day to look over their work-sites. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that hundreds of workers die each year from electrocution and many thousands more are seriously injured by electrical shock. Shock occurs when the body becomes a part of the electrical circuit. Of all the injuries that can happen to our workers, eye injuries are the most debilitating. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports each year that most workers who receive head injuries were not wearing head protection and it was not required by their employers.
