ABSTRACT

Ergonomics or human factors engineering can maximize the worker to increase productivity, job satisfaction, and job attitude. Ergonomics is concerned with the study of people in their work environments, the tools used, and the machinery required to produce a product. The major goal of human factors engineering is to design safety in the job, in the machine, and in the environment. The intent is to ensure that the work, the equipment, and the environment are so designed to fit the job to the person rather than the person to the job. The advent of the video display terminals (VDTs) is bringing some concerns to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Human beings are often required to perform innumerable tasks as part of their daily working situations. Human factors should always be considered in job assignments, and when this is done, the results will be increased efficiency, a decrease in human error, and a significant reduction in accidents and injuries.
