ABSTRACT

An air pollution control device is primarily employed because of the realization that the atmospheric contamination has exceeded some predetermined value. A large variety of wet collectors are used for cleaning, cooling, and deodorizing of gas, particulate, and vapor emissions to the atmosphere. The air is usually scrubbed by water spray units and these too will contain high suspended solid matter. The water used as the scrubbing medium is treated in the waste treatment plant. Water spray for dust removal or dust collectors of the cyclone precipitation type can result in substantial water pollution problems. An attempt to clean air and water thus also resulted in substantial economics. Untreated water recirculating will result in corrosion and erosion problems and would undoubtedly result in poor economics. Incineration has been one of the foremost control methods and involves solid, liquid, as well as atmospheric wastes and discharges.
