ABSTRACT

The keys to career success are the same in government service, industry, and consulting activities. They are: diligent work habits; communication ability; knowledge of job-related subject matter; and personal drive to present and publish information. It goes without saying that diligent work habits are required for program success and for career enhancement. Written communication is a daily occurrence and requirement in government, industry, or consulting. The “publish or perish” mentality is seldom associated with government service, industry, or consulting activities. Government service areas include local, state, and federal governments. In essence any governmental program has its roots in people impacted by it, and its success depends on information dissemination and the support received from the local level. Survival in the consulting arena requires a constant search for new work. Typical consulting focus that have need of environmentally trained personnel have contracts with industry, municipalities, or government institutions.
