ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with the general problem of statistical inference with particular reference to discrete distributions. For a detailed exposition on problems of estimation theory reference may be made to Rao (1973). The interest here is mainly to present results that are used extensively in later chapters. Reference will be made often to the general formulations presented in this chapter. In this respect the material presented here is a brief review. There are two main sections - estimation and testing of hypotheses.
