ABSTRACT

Preliminary to a consideration of the drying facilities, one must consider the containers in which the filter cake or other material to be dried is to be placed. In the laboratory one usually employs an evaporating dish with a simple glazed surface. The most frequently used drying equipment in the laboratory is the simple laboratory oven. Ovens can be purchased with multiple shelf possibilities and with temperature variation and control between 75°C and several hundred degrees Celsius. They can be either vacuum ovens or controlled atmosphere ovens. The simplest drying facilities for semiworks are very similar to the simplest equipment described for laboratory facilities, which consists of a suitably sized cubicle with door and heating element either at the top, with a fan circulating the hot gases down over the catalyst, or at the bottom or sides of the enclosed cubicle. Tunnel dryers are also continuous facilities and usually are employed for extremely high temperature processing.
