Production of Electrons and Slow Ions in Collisions of H+, H0 and He+ with Atmospheric Molecules and Atoms

This chapter provides the recommended values of total, differential and partial cross sections for production of electrons and slow ions in collisions of protons, hydrogen atoms and He ions with atmospheric atoms and molecules. Information available on such processes in collisions of heavy atomic particles is much more scarce than in the case of electron impact. For this reason, it is more convenient to classify the collected information according to the kind of projectile: cross sections for collisions of atmospheric molecules with protons, hydrogen atoms and He+ ions. The recommended values of cross sections for production of electrons and slow ions have been determined on the basis of the compilation [3] and the experimental data of McNeal. The recommended values of total cross sections for production of electrons and slow ions have been determined on the basis of the data of absolute measurements of Rudd et al.
