ABSTRACT

One very helpful technique that teams can use is Force Field Analysis. This technique is described in a variety of ways in the literature, but essentially consists of a method of graphically depicting the "forces" working for and against implementation of a new project or process. Force Field Analysis identifies all the various positive and negative forces that will either encourage or discourage change. These forces are graphically displayed and plans can be made to strengthen the positive and eliminate the negative forces. Force Field Analysis can help move a team along in its deliberations because it helps the team identify and recognize the presence of factors that will shape their success. If the positive forces total higher than the negative, things may improve over time. The reverse is true if the negative outweighs the positive.
