ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the design details of setting up a local data acquisition system. It also looks at the block diagram of a local data acquisition system. The chapter looks at as a case study starting with the specification sheet and guiding the reader step by step to choose necessary components for the data acquisition system. There are many factors to be considered before a data acquisition card is selected for an application. Among the most important factors to consider are the selection of the sampling rate and the resolution of the card. Another important consideration during the selection of the card is the number of channels for sampling. There are several different types of cables that can be used for transmitting signal from the source of the signal to the data acquisition hardware. The chapter explains different types of filters available and shows which one is more suitable for which circumstance.
