ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The aim of this research is to identify the relationship between coping mechanisms and stress levels among nursing students at Andalas University. The sample for this research constituted 124 respondents, chosen through survey (total sampling) method. Data was collected at the Faculty of Nursing, Andalas University during the period 15-23 May 2017. This study shows that almost half (45.2%) of the students had high levels of stress and more than half (54.8%) of the respondents used maladaptive coping mechanisms. There was also a significant relationship (p =  0.000) between coping mechanism and stress level among the students when completing their theses. The result of this study also indicates that nursing students should seek emotional support from others to overcome the problems that arise during their thesis completion, so that their stress level maybe reduced.
