ABSTRACT

Products are developed to serve a market need. As these demands evolve, existing market products may no longer be able to satisfy the customer base; and, need to be replaced with updates and newer versions. Eventually, a business may decide to retire a product or a product line. Although the decision to remove a product from the market is never taken lightly, the steps needed to cleanly obsolete the product internally may be confusing and ambiguous. This may be the reason why 90% of the sales of so many business is based on roughly 30% of items in their catalogues. In this chapter, I like to propose an efficient means and process of retiring a product or its family.
