ABSTRACT

The energy level, guile, and intelligence exhibited by the typical Bipolar who is manic, and an Antisocial person, will try the patience, ability, and professionalism of any crisis negotiating team. There are two fundamental differences between the mood swings of the Bipolar person and those of normal people. These are the degree and reason for the change. The law enforcement problem with people who suffer from a Bipolar Disorder is most frequently found among those who, on Axis II, have a Personality Disorder known as “Antisocial.” The vast majority of people who have Bipolar disorder are not a danger to society. According to the American Psychiatric Association, about 1.5 percent of the United States population suffers from a Bipolar disorder. For the person with a Bipolar Disorder, lithium levels the mood swings at both ends of the spectrum and keeps them within a normal emotional range.
