ABSTRACT

Terrorist and related extremist groups tend to be comprised of three types of personality. These include the possibly paranoid leader, the absolutely antisocial element, and the inherently inadequate follower. Perhaps the most unique aspect of the extremist hostage taker is his or her interest in favorable media coverage. While other types also have an interest in the media, the Extremist and the Paranoid Schizophrenic are especially excited over good coverage. Terrorists or other extremists are not supermen, nor are they typically suicidal. The present extremists actively emulate the Nazi movement as they collect and adorn themselves with Nazi insignia and ranks. Many of home-grown extremists consider the local police and sheriff more of an ally than law enforcement officers from the state or federal levels. The local law enforcement would learn of their activities long before their peers at the federal level.
