ABSTRACT

SeaBear/Made in Washington (MIW) is a privately held company that offers few product lines. Each product line has a separate business name and focuses on products made or processed in the state of Washington. SeaBear inventories the cleaned but unprocessed frozen fish in cold storage until they are needed to meet planned sales. This enables the company to take advantage of favorable purchase terms when available. Internal collaboration is important at SeaBear/MIW. The three subsidiaries share some supply chain components: incoming transportation for raw materials and outgoing delivery of products in company-owned trucks and by outside transportation providers. SeaBear does have one contract to make private-label smoked fish for an outside company. Production is estimated by their downstream customer, and the ordering company guarantees to purchase all this production. SeaBear eventually sells all the production to this customer, but the schedule of sales varies with their partner's customer demand.
